Personal Development Techniques To Release The Past

January 24th, 2008 by aaks

It is possible to release your past regardless of how painful or deprived it was. Through these personal development techniques you let go of all your emotional baggage and start fresh.

Once you release your emotional attachment to your past you are free to enjoy the present. From this powerful place of being happy and content with where you are you can then begin to create the future of your dreams.

Although you cannot change anything that has happened in the past you can change how your past experiences affect your future. The first step to releasing the past is to accept that it happened. No matter how traumatic the experience or how distasteful the memory is you must acknowledge here and now that it occurred. This is what we call entering a state of Acceptance. Many people live their entire lives wanting to change the past. They moan that if only things had been different their life would be so much better. The past is gone. It happened. There is no way to change the past so there is no point wishing that it never happened or that it happened differently. You cannot change it so accept it!

After acceptance you can enter a state of peace when you realise that the past, all of it, good and bad experiences alike have helped to form and mould the person you are today. All the knowledge, desire and love that are in you right now are a direct result of the past experiences that make up your life.

Next realise that the past has some powerful lessons to teach you. Have you learned anything positive from your past experiences? Use your past as a learning tool. See where you went wrong and make the changes you need to make today so that your future becomes a bright and welcoming place. Never use your past as an excuse to stay the way you are or to tolerate circumstances and situations with which you are currently unhappy! Realise that the past has been and gone. All you have is this moment and that is all you need to make changes.

Many millions of people throughout the centuries have overcome their own personal adversity to achieve great things. You can do the same. These people refused to accept what life had handed them. They never moaned about their past nor allowed it to interfere with their present and thus they created their future the way they wanted it to be.

You should never use the past an excuse for staying stuck in your life. Your power is always in the present moment. Use your past negative experiences as a motivational tool to spur you on. It is all about your perception! It is your perception of the things around you that determines your reality. What you focus on expands. This means you get more of what you focus on in life. If you chose to focus on the mistakes and hardships of your past then that is what you will experience more of.

But if you decide to put the past where it belongs, in the past, and fully embrace the present moment and where you are you will find yourself in a powerful creative place. Only revisit the past to learn from it not as an emotional trip. Although much of your current mental conditioning originates from childhood and early life experiences it can be changed. By making the decision now and holding the intention now that the past will no longer affect you, you can free yourself from your own self-imposed bondage.

From this place of freedom you can make decisions based upon current situations and circumstances instead of being the slave to reactive emotional thinking and acting. The evidence is everywhere that people with painful, damaging pasts have overcame them and gone on to achieve high levels of success. Look at the business world, sports, creative arts etc. There are rags to riches stories everywhere you care to look.

You may encounter past experiences that are very difficult for you to realease. At these times you should seek professional help in whatever form you feel appropriate, even if it is just a subliminal or hypnosis recording. Do something now to release your past - make the decision that it will no longer rule over your current life. Intend to be free of the past. In your own mind decide now that no matter what you need to do you will release your emotional issues. Even though you may not know how you are going to do this yet hold the intention that you will do it. When you do this and begin to live in the now you will be more content and at peace while you wait for your marvelous future to unfold.

DISCOVERING YOUR LIFE’S MISSION (FROM THE OPRAH WINFREY SHOW)

October 10th, 2007 by aaks

DISCOVERING YOUR LIFE’S MISSION (FROM THE OPRAH WINFREY SHOW)

This article (in point form) was based upon notes I’ve taken from Oprah Winfrey’s most uplifting TV program from some years back. I hope that it may be encouraging, uplifting and perhaps even inspirational to you in following the unique path you were “destined” to travel. Enjoy…
*
How can you find true happiness? Ask yourself: wherever you are in your life, how would you like to be remembered? Are you truly happy? Has your life turned out the way you wanted? If it all ended today, did you live the life you really wanted?
Do you drag yourself to a job you can’t stand. To see how far you have come in your life. Chart your way to success. Be there for those in need. Think good, positive thoughts.
What do you really want to do with the rest of your life? Write your obituary. Are you on target with why you came onto your life? What do you want written on your obituary? Discover your life’s mission. We all waste precious “planet time”. If you died today, what was your purpose in coming onto this earth?
I’m happy; but I want to do more. Love, kindness to family/friends, helping others, being there for those in need, having positive thoughts, a good spirit. Start small and try to be a good person. You can later make big changes in your life. Do you want to do more? Don’t we all. The key to misery is in trying too hard to please others - think of yourself first. Don’t get in touch what what you’re thinking and feeling. To be a better person - start small. Crazy life! Purpose is not the goal - it’s the pattern all along - there’s a pattern in all of our lives. Look beneath the purpose. What does love mean, if you don’t begin with yourself?

An author on the show wrote a book: What are you doing with the rest of your life? We are all half asleep - think life’s OK. Look at our whole lifespan. We grow and develop throughout most of our lifespan and the biggest growth usually occurs particularly in the middle years. Don’t think of dying. Death is euphemistically called “passing to the other side”. Earth was a “gas” (fun). We come from a mystery and go to mystery… and don’t know either end. Recognise what we really want to do in our lives. Look ahead 20, 30, 40 years. Check and know our TRUTH. We are finite - truth is all important. Take life seriously. Everone’s life has its own patterns, plateaus, pitfalls and rythm (adulthood unfolds over time).
Strive for inner peace…and this is not a matter of “missing the boat”.

In the nineteen-fiftys the sociologist Eric Ericson (nice sounding name - alliteration said there are three stages in life:
* early
* middle
and
* late

As adults we grow and change over our whole lifespan.

1. Early: We have a choice between intimacy and isolation (sounds just like an “analytical/ /intellectual” sociologist! ). We are forced to learn to focus in and be loyal to one person…and ourselves.

2. The middle stage: Here we have a choice between contribution and self absorbtion. ‘It happens when it happens.’ Reflect on life what changes. A common example: We derive little or no satisfaction after doing the same job for 15-20 years. This applies especially to us men. That’s when we buy a Ferrari for status and ego (and act young, of course!). It’s otherwise called the ‘middle age transition’. We tend to relect on our lives and ask ourselves: Where have I been and where do I want to go? Women have this feeling too - when the children are growing up, but (like us men “stuck in our careers”, they have to stay with their job - and can’t get a Ferrari! ‘What am I going to do now?’, we ask ourselves.

There is a choice between integrity and despair. We might feel good, even though we may have made many mistakes in the course of our lives. Especially me! We can’t change life and what’s past. What can I do? As long as you feel vital and alive - the vitaliy of mid-life. You could be a late bloomer, like me. (You could even have hit “the big five-o”. Act on your own feelings and intuition. Come out of the closet (yes, even you ‘queers’) and follow your heart. Who am I really? You can still do it…even at age 65!
*
How do you put your life in order, if you had only one month to live? How would you live your life? With all the bills and worries. Instead of wasting life and walking blindly through life. What else could I have done? Wishing. How to start moving in the right direction. Recognise there’s a pattern to each of our lives and what part you’re in? There is always more. A lady on the show was diagnosed with terminal illness. She asked herself: ‘What could I impart to my son in the time I have left?’ Focus on the important things in life, instead of the trivial. Doing this makes you think differently about life. Eg. going to the movies, or going out to dinner. Like the lady, cherish the meaningful time on earth.
*

“The souls choice” - in search of our inner calling.

Each of us comes into life with a calling. The journey of life is to discover that calling. At some time certain incidents lead to this calling. Ella Fitzgerald was a dancer and changed to start singing. Something happened to change her thinking. What’s your life script?

Our children have their OWN destiny. We all have a guardian angel - our higher self.
The journey to your unique destiny develops character. It will come out, no matter what you do - it is predetermined? ??, sooner or later. Understand your destiny. What am I really meant to do with my life?

The soul’s choice: Each person enters the world called - to do something with their life. It is not necessarily to be famous, like a rock star. Your child could be good at numbers and become an accountant. It may be just being a friend, or of service to society.

Children should find a place for their specific calling. Many people associate fame with achieving their purpose in life. I believe there is no higher calling than being a good parent.
*
See life for what it really is; then celebrate it. Dying teaches us that we are finite beings.
The STEPS we should be taking: Take four sheets of paper and answer these questions:

* What do I want to DO?

* What do I want to BE? A PhD with 10 million dollars in the bank, perhaps?

* What do want to HAVE?

and most importantly,

* What do I want to GIVE?
in my years left on this planet?

Look at the stepping stones, the patterns of your life…from birth onwards, as they’ve shaped us to what we are now.
New birth in middle years.
Normally these patterns are in all of our lives. Ask yourself:
Why am I in this present situation? Who knows. God alone! Are you perhaps acting out a part; because of what others want/expect from you. Are you being judged by others??
A study showed that 90 of Americans believed that they would be happier with earning 10-20 more money.
(However; nobody could paint a dream).

Meditate frequently. What do I want to give to the world today? Thoughts. How do I want to be? Decide what kind of day you’ll have. We all have a choice. Do what you always do and you’ll get what you’ll always got. If you are stuck in a rut, it’s time to change. TIME TO CHANGE. Don’t set yourself up for failure. Love yourself for your uniqueness.
The patterns of being afraid. Like trying to please people all of the time - being a ‘people pleaser’. Throw out your self desires. What do you do to break it? Honour it. Fear is the “beacon to your truth”. Get in touch with the deepest lining of your heart, whether it is health, God or your personal goals. Ask yourself: “What am I afraid of?”. List your fears.
Then “knock them off” one by one. Realise by doing that they have no power - once you confront them, you’ll soon realise they have no fear. It’s often hard to accept joy, fear, rejection, people talking behind your back, others thinking you’re not a nice person. It hurts deeply; because you’re not in touch with your own feelings. If you are stuck in a rut and think your life is going nowhere…
Imagine you are 100 years old!

Women, the men in your life could be holding you back. You can devote your life to your profession.

The secrets to a healthy fulfilling life: Parents want only good, and usually the best for their children. Money is not ALL-important, but integrity is. Just do the best you
can; then hope and pray that other people will do the best they can.
Don’t think, “All ‘I’ and ‘me’”. The Almighty has the final say in how it (your life) all pans out. TRUST the Universe.
The housewife who won $6 million in a lottery. Did it make her happier?

Many people wanted to borrow money from her. Her marriage was wrecked. Now she wants to do something good and worthwhile with the money she won. She invested in a home for herself and her family. Money by itself doesn’t mean anything; so turn the energy produced by money into doing good in the world. Money is handy in that it pays the bills. However, money doesn’t change our spirit - it doesn’t make you a better person. Money can help alleviate (nice word) soul-destroying poverty, as well as producing soul-destroying wealth. Be rich intellectually, as well as spiritually (most important). Surveys have found
that 80 of people are unhappy in their jobs. Begin to give a little more to your job in terms of energy. Make small changes in your life at first.

Let the beauty of love be what you do (”do little things with great love”). Let life enrich you.

A few final words to summarise all that’s been written…
Aim for clarity in your thinking.
What do you want to BE/HAVE/GIVE in the years ahead?

Give a little more in your job. Take small steps to make your dream come true. How specific should it be? The people who had the greatest fulfillment believed in a Power Greater than themselves. Successful aging is a deeper truth. These people found meaning in that everything, every experience in life was valuable. Get your dream, really take hold of it.
Cherish it and make it happen.

Be happy

Craig Lock

“The task ahead of you can always be overcome by the power within
you…and the often seemingly difficult or even “impassible” ) path
ahead of you is never as steep with the great spirit that lies
within you.”

“We have it within; but we get it all from without. There is a well-spring of strength, wisdom, courage and great imagination
within each one of us; but once we draw on this truth, it gets watered from without, by a Higher Source - the Source of Life and Love, which is God, the very Ground of our Being.”

About the author:
Craig’s mission is to encourage people to believe in themselves and
help inspire people around the world to achieve their goals and dreams in life, whatever they may be.

Real Success Comes From Doing It Your Way

July 31st, 2007 by aaks

If what works for somebody else is working against you, it doesn’t matter how hard you try to duplicate somebody else’s success their way. It’s just not going to work for you. You need to focus on your strengths. Choose to work in a field that you know to be profitable, but work in it in a way that is productive for you, not necessarily the way that is productive for somebody else, regardless of how successful they are.

When you see others doing something that brings great success, you might want to follow what they do. If you also love doing what they are doing, then this is great for you. But what if you hate doing it? How well do you think it’s going to work for you? You might find some success with it if you keep working harder and harder, but it’s not going to make you happy. You’re not going to have a sense of satisfaction each time you complete such an activity. It will probably just leave you drained.

When you then start comparing your own limited success to the enormous success that’s been attained by somebody who loves doing it that way, it will only dishearten you and make you want to give up. So what do you do? Well then, find a way that’s more comfortable for you. Trying to approach it the way other people are approaching it will be hurting you, not making you better. In order to truly succeed, you have to do it in a way that works for you.

You have certain strengths and you should focus only on those strengths. Those strengths are always related to the growth of you business and how you create revenue for yourself. You can learn how to do something but in the end if it isn’t your cup of tea, there are many other skills you can take up to build your business. We all have different skillsets and so it is very important to focus on your strengths because your strengths are your unique gift of expressing value in this world.

If you work on your weaknesses long enough, all you’ll end up is having strong weaknesses. You weaknesses are not your unique gift of expressing value in this world. What truly defines a weakness? A weakness is something that you do not feel naturally drawn to doing and neither have the disposition nor enjoyment of doing it. If there is something that you just like doing even though you’re not doing it as well as you can yet, as long as you keep doing it, you will become very proficient at it.

Your strengths are the things that you feel naturally drawn to doing and find real enjoyment and satisfaction in doing them. Only by doing something that you have a natural passion for, will you have the drive and energy to keep doing it regardless of the results. Your desired way of doing things is the way you were designed to function. It is the way you were meant to express yourself to this world and achieve the success you desire. It is how you’re guided for the perfect fulfillment of your purpose.

Every person has certain unique capabilities. But they also share many other things with every body else. Your special gift is where you vary greatly from other people, but when it comes to everything else, your variance would be low. If you insist on doing everything in your business, you would end up with far less time to spend on your unique talents, and therefore would realize less from them. A person’s unique talents are what makes the person and the world wealthy.

Wealthy people look at themselves honestly and see what it is that they most enjoy and what it is that they are a whole lot better at than most other people. They may also be good at a whole lot of other things, maybe slightly better than most people. But what is important is what they are best at, not just good or even great, but best. It is also what they really enjoy and cannot stop doing. What matters is what they are far better at doing than anyone else and what they enjoy best.

Then they do only that thing and delegate, outsource or leave everything else. They do not worry that people will not do the rest as good as they would have. Delegate everything else in your business except for the one thing you are exceptionally good at and what you most enjoy, even if it is just dreaming up new ideas. Society functions best when everyone does what they are best at and most enjoy, and their strengths compliment each other’s weaknesses so we are most productive and happy.

The secret of success is doing a few basic things right most of the time, and repeating the process over and over again. Those few basic things are your strengths. Keep focusing on doing what you most prefer to do and enjoy doing. Everything else that does not help you to do what you do better is a distraction from success, and most distractions appear under the guise of opportunities and alternatives. Concentrate by ignoring all else and focusing on your core activities to achieve maximum success.

It doesn’t matter how successful others are with what they are doing. Your strengths are different, and you have to accept that and find a way to work with your strengths. When you do that, the improvement you make is remarkable. So learn from what others are finding success at, and try it their way at first in case it works for you. But if it doesn’t, don’t keep trying harder and harder at something that just doesn’t fit you or your personality. Either do it your way, or move on to something else.

Be Yourself

July 31st, 2007 by aaks

Much of the tension in our lives arises when we consciously or subconsciously imitate others.

If we listen to ourselveswe will often here the voice of a parent, an older sibling, perhaps a charismatic teacher from school days.

Imitation is the cheapest way to live.

It is unnatural, and a sign that we are not thinking for ourselves.

And deep down, our conscience knows it.

We are under the thrall of another’s personality, sometimes several.

Awareness is the only way free. Reflect on what you say and do.

Can you see or hear others in your thoughts, words and emotions?

Don’t struggle, don’t resist, just be aware and choose to say and do the things YOU want to say and do…yourself .

Gradually, the real authentic you will emerge from the shadows .

And one day it will be your turn to turn to someone and gently say, “Be your self!”
