“The mind is the security system of the body, so it wants to be in control to feel safe.”
Mona & Giovanni - Question the Mind
We operate under the illusion that we are in control. To surrender means to yield or give up. Surrendering to a Higher Power means asking for support. It is saying we can’t do it alone. It brings us out of ourselves somehow, and gives some relief to our struggles. “As a typical baby boomer who left formal religion behind at age 19, I had to be pushed pretty far for my ego to even begin to allow me to surrender.
I see now that what happened to me was an important part of my menopausal journey. It was the intensifying of experience that often happens in the last couple of years of perimenopause. Both Christiane Northrup and Susun Weed talk about this. My restricted left shoulder, injured carrying heavy rugs, was the event that catalyzed this key part of my journey. As my shoulder froze up I became so limited physically that I went into a completely different space in body-mind and spirit. Although I functioned in my life in a limited way, my main focus was on what was happening inside me. For a few months I did what Christiane Northrup calls “hanging out in the underworld”. I like to call this place the “abyss”. There I had seemed to have no choice but to allow my worst fears, grief and confusion to be fully experienced.
A few years earlier I had remembered that I had experienced sexual trauma as a toddler, but I was unprepared for the strong emotions that arose in me, and the occasional brief but graphic visual flashbacks that seemed to come from my shoulders after I received healing bodywork. My concern was that I would lose touch with reality and ‘leave’ my body somehow. This is what I think happened, albeit briefly, at the time of the abuse. During this difficult time I remember walking down the street and saying ‘please help me’ to a Higher Power I think of as ‘The Universe’, ‘The Light’, ‘The Great Mother’ or ‘God’.
Surrendering of this nature was definitely not my usual modus operandi in the world. But I was desperate. I felt lost and alone in many ways. I knew that most people, not having made a similar internal journey, didn’t understand what I was going through.
But “thank the Goddess”, there was one person who really got it, and that was my very wise chiropractor, Christine. One day she said to me, “sometimes when you’re standing on the edge of the abyss, there’s nothing else to do but jump.” I felt comforted and validated that she understood the limbo I was in.
As the months wore on, the shoulder restriction slowly eased with the help of chiropractic, massage, acupuncture and exercises. After six months, I had approximately 80% of the mobility back in my arm. As the shoulder released, something softened and released in me emotionally also.
I asked for guidance on what to do next and soon the idea came to me of writing to Judith Duerk, author and women’s retreat leader to inquire about leadership training. My goal was to offer holistic groups for women. I went to Wyoming to work with Judith over a period of three years. I also sponsored a Judith Duerk retreat in my own community.
Out of this time in the abyss, a new ‘me’ was born. I was able to move into the next phase of my life as a mature women…a crone which has been very satisfying. I returned to school to get a master’s degree in counseling. This qualified me for my life’s work with women.
My life is not a perfect life now, now is it particularly easy. But I know who I am more and more and know what I can contribute to the world.

Who will I be when I grow up? Many of us kind of bumble along in life, going with the flow, without firm plans or goals. Others have a clearly delineated pathway from an early age. There’s no right or wrong way to do this. We need to find the right balance for us between being totally driven on the one hand, and aimless on the other.
In The Law of Attraction Abraham says that we will experience positive emotions whenever we recognize our growth and negative emotions when we are feeling stagnation. Many psychologists are now looking at the role of goals in their research and clinical work with clients.
I have had the privilege of both consulting and being trained by Dr. Lee Pulos, an expert on performance and motivation. In his on-line interview with the Intuition Network Lee speaks of a study with patients in a convalescent facility. One group of patients was given responsibility for the houseplant in their room, and the other group was told not to concern themselves with it, the staff would look after it. The group without the simple goal of plant care died within the expected time frame of eighteen months, while the other group lived almost twice as long. So the message, Dr. Pulos says, is that we feel more empowered when we have a goal, a vision in our lives.
During my perimenopausal years I didn’t have an action goal per se. Stillness was the place I resided in. Every woman has her own unique way of transitioning through this stage of life. My way seemed to be about waiting, about living from day to day, moment to moment. I sensed that something profound was going on deep inside me; I had no idea what it was. My physical energy levels were low.
My doctor of Chinese Medicine told me that my kidney energy was quite low, and in Chinese medicine all the other systems rest on the kidney system. He encouraged me to rest. I did that, in spades. I think the profound ‘circuitry re-wiring’ going on within me that Northrup speaks of was leading me to a new sense of self. Perhaps it was no accident that my physical energy was low; I needed the stillness to develop into the woman I was becoming.
Now goals and visioning are a way of life for me. I feel an enormous sense of possibility since beginning my North Star coaching journey with Dr. Martha Beck almost three years ago. Despite my daily challenges with my limiting beliefs, I am steadily moving forward in my life. I’m giving myself permission to know and act on my yearnings. My life is beginning to reflect my dreams and visions.
So try this: Get yourself in the flow with breath work, dancing or exercise. Then ask yourself: “what do I yearn for?” Listen carefully to the answers without monitoring. Now you have your jumping-off point, your goal.

“Live your beliefs and you can turn the world around.” -Henry David Thoreau-
Imagine over 100 years ago this was a personal belief of Henry David Thoreau, and now today in our enlightenment many of us are just becoming aware of this truth that he knew then. A true great master in perfect form and enlightenment.
Find, expand, practice, share and live your beliefs. As each of us do this, one then ten then a hundred then thousands will turn into each individual, then the community and then the world changes - one individual at a time - see how great we are!
Your beliefs may and probably will always be changing form, however, the core of your beliefs will remain the same as we are all one and come from the same Core or Source. How we get to our beliefs are on many varied paths at different time schedules and with many teachers and mentors along the way, this all varies depending on our heritage and family background and what influences we had as children, then we become adults and start sorting out what is true for us as our individual beliefs start to form.
When all is said and done, love is all there is - you are love and you, one individual at a time, can turn the world around. With this knowledge we can make that difference in the world that we thought was always in the hands of others, it is in our hands and we can make a difference with believing in our beliefs every day.
Namaste,

Passion is something we all share. It’s a natural part of the human experience; we all have access to it and we can all use it as a tremendous tool for empowerment. The key lies in learning how to access, harness and direct your passion so that it serves you in positive ways.
Very broadly, passion is defined as “a strong, or intense, feeling or emotion.” The reason passion carries such power is that all emotions are energy… and intense emotions are very powerful energy.
Emotions act as a kind of “carrier” that allows two-way communication between our consciousness and universal energy. If you are less spiritual, you can look at it from a purely psychological perspective and say that emotion allows communication between the conscious and subconscious mind.
Either way, it’s how we create our entire life experience. Our thoughts trigger emotions; those emotions then “carry” or “broadcast” our thoughts to the universal energy field - I call it Infinite Energy - and the physical/experiential manifestation of our thoughts arises from within this field.
This being the case, you can see that when someone says “Your thoughts create your life,” they are absolutely correct. It’s true from a psychological perspective as well as from a “higher” energetic perspective. Anything we experience is the direct result of our emotions, which we control by our thoughts… though not always consciously.
To create the life experience that you want, it’s extremely important to notice your thoughts and consciously focus them on positive things… the things you want. The average person thinks 50,000 to 60,000 thoughts per day, and many people don’t pay much attention to the thoughts they think. Instead, they let their minds wander, chatter, worry, judge and the like… with very little focus. Then they wonder why they don’t get what they want in life.
If you truly want to create happiness and success, learn to observe your mind and consciously choose your thoughts. Meditation is a wonderful practice to help you with this. Relax into the process; don’t force anything, and realize that it will take some practice to break years of “bad mind habits”. Focus on the positive things in your life, and see yourself as already having what you want, right here and right now. Feel the positive emotions that these kinds of thoughts create, and know that what you want is on its way to you now!
Develop your “personal passion meter” as well by observing your feelings on a consistent basis. Are you in touch with your “positive” passion? Do you feel empowered and enthusiastic because you love the things you’re doing or thinking about… or simply because you love life itself? When confronted with challenges, do you put negative aspects aside and focus on positive solutions?
Or are you at the mercy of “negative” passion? In other words, do you experience strong or intense feelings or emotions about negative things? If so, make the commitment to yourself to change your focus: you always have the choice of how you feel.
Positive focus is vital to using your power of passion to create positive results in your life. With consistent positive, passionate focus, you will be successful - universal law guarantees it. But it’s up to you to make the first move. Work on observing your thoughts, maintaining positive focus, discovering your positive passion and encouraging its growth!

There are two people you know very well. Better than anyone else in fact. Most people know one better than the other. Most people do what the one tells them more than the other. Most people behave in a way more like the one tells them to behave. The two people are you.
Look deep inside yourself. You will see the two people for who they are. One of these people is the hero in your life. You saw them when you graduated high school, when you gave that excellent speech, when you finally stood-up to your demeaning friend, when you hit the homerun on your softball team. This individual is everything you dream about being - who you want to be - the IDEAL SELF. This person is capable of achieving anything - making millions of dollars - becoming famous around the world — helping thousands - and any other form of greatness than disguises it as one of our desires.
The other person your likely to see (and most see them too often) is the non-idea self. This self is weak and pessimistic. This self constantly makes bad decisions, backs down, says this will be too difficult, and ultimately gives up on life. This self is in constant state of failure. Just as strongly as you can feel your triumphant self in good times, this self echoes the failures of your life and constantly reminds you of where you should be. This guy is decidedly realistic (which really means negative) and set boundaries on where it decides your life should be. It fences off your dreams and says those are not for you, you’re not capable of those. And so we listen to this guy. He helps “shape” our life letting us accomplish exactly what we think we should accomplish. Constantly settling for less this self tells us the other self does not exist and everything they do is an element of luck.
Thus we live, in the battle that our two selves have. Ninety percent of people let the second self win ninety percent of the time. Creating a mundane uninteresting life with a few “moments” of lucky greatness. They let the great self out only in the rarest of circumstances or in certain activities that they happen to feel comfortable with. This is the great TRUTH that separates ninety percent of the population that “seem” destined for greatness no matter what they do.
The fundamental principle applies; who we BELIEVE we are on the inside will manifest itself on the outside. Lets name a few qualities of great people - of any great person that has ever lived.
Courageous
Full of Faith
Confident
NO FEAR
It takes courage to be great. The inside qualities are what count. If you had no fear, what would you do differently in your life? Ninety percent of all reading this will still live in fear. However, the more we overcome this fear and live with COURAGE the more our dreams WILL come true. In this life many have adopted the philosophy that greatness comes with luck of the draw, and that greatness may luckily stumble upon them someday. This will never happen.
The good news is: a small change in thinking WILL lead to an enormous change in results. Work on changing the inner qualities of how you think, how you think about yourself, and what you can accomplish in life. Believe anything is possible and it will be readily available.
The attitudes, beliefs, and thoughts we carry are the causes of our life; the things we do are the effects. Many people believe that their lives are going wrong, therefore they go from one effect to another, but the cause does not change. For example, in my own life I went through a difficult time searching for a job and a career I would enjoy. I went from one line of work to the next - inevitably being unhappy with my life and what I was doing. A friend of my gave me some of the best advice I have ever received, he said, “you will never find the career you want, you have to create it.” I took his advice and started my own business. What really changed was not my job or the activities I was doing, but my attitude.
It takes tremendous courage to defeat the non-ideal self. It often goes against beliefs we have held since we were very young. However, the fact that you are still reading this shows you are already on your way and understand the necessary fundamentals of what make us who we are. Indeed we create our own destinies, the challenge is there, will you accept it?

It’s a day at a time life. That’s the only way to live. Think about it yesterday is gone, tomorrow in not here . So, what do you have? Even if you have to take it a minute at a time, enjoy it, stop being so hard on yourself. When doors close, lets open the new one’s. Just remember your not alone, everyone has some kind of problem. Big or small, something is always going to be in our path. I’m not telling you to walk around it, it will work it self out if we deal with it. We grow from the pain, and learn from our experience that we encounter on our journey.
What are we focused on? And always thinking about. Nine times out of ten were thinking about our own problems. When we are in our own heads we are behind enemy lines. Should we take the cotton out of our ears, and put in our mouth? Or should we just reach out to help someone less fortunate, or just having a bad day. You don’t have to go very far to find those kind of people. The world has changed, we live in a fast pace, push button society. Do yourself a favor don’t get sucked into it. Take a personal inventory once in a while. It’s ok to slow it down, maybe you have been missing alot of the little things in your life.
I always like to end with a daily reading or quote. This one is from Joel Osteen’s Your Best Life Now: Happiness is a choice. You don’t have to wait for everything to be perfectly straightened out in your family or with your business, or for all your problems to be solved. You don’t have to forgo happiness until you lose weight, break an unhealthy habit, or accomplish all your goals. No, God wants you to be happy right where you are, right now.
Good luck and God bless on your daily ventures.

There is one thing that every person possesses that everyone else wants - and they want it very, very much. No one may tell you outright, even when you ask, yet you may be sure that secretly they do want it and are afraid to ask you for it.
The gift I am talking about is not something that you can buy because no store sells it. It is not something that you can make because there are no materials with which to construct it. And, it is not the age-old adage of giving your time, your attention, love, compassion, empathy or charity. This is something that is much more dear to you than all of those worn out suggestions. In fact, it is something SO precious that you actually may be afraid to give it to anybody. Only you will know for sure!
The gift that you can give to everyone you want to share with this Christmas is something that will continue to give of itself for as long as you are here. It is YOU! By you, I mean the authentic you, the real you. This is the you that you don’t let anyone else see, even those closest to you. This is the you that is so intimate that if you give it to someone else, it will give you away. And isn’t that exactly what giving means - to give something away?
If you are reading these words and thinking “well, I already do that” or “oh, I don’t need to do that”, then I am talking to you. How dearly the mind wishes to hold on to its illusory perception of safety that hides behind the walls of our ego faces. How clearly we may believe that we are right and, in that knowing, that we are *safe*.
I would ask you in this month before the year 2007 closes its doors that you feel very deeply inside to where the *you that is YOU* lives. Ask yourself if you are able to give this gift to everyone, or even someone, in your life. In truth, it is the only present they really want no matter the time of the year or the reason.

THE LAWS OF LIFE: Twenty-One Universal Laws and Spiritual Truths” (from Inspirational Books)
“Our minds can shape the way a thing will be, because we act according to our expectations …and that’s why it shapes our reality.”
INTRODUCTION:
Submitter’s Note: Just sharing a few thoughts as I research, study and write about the human mind, spiritual principles and the Laws of Life. This article is largely based upon a chapter, “Universal Laws and Truth” from the fascinating and thought-provoking book, “The Way of the Warrior Trader” by Dr Richard D. McCall.
I believe, If we can understand these “facts of life”, anyone WILL overcome negative and consequently disabling emotions, so you can achieve your full potential in life. So this is my reason for sharing (as well as “formalising, clarifying, imprinting and manifesting” these principles and thoughts - ‘wise’ in my “top two inches”, as I do it), together with some additional points and input of my own)…
Now after that long “intro”, I’ll share the concepts mentioned in this work with you (whew, at long last!)…
*
Here are the Twenty Universal (and Spiritual) Laws,
which I believe, are applicable in ALL areas of our lives:
1. First is the Law of ATTRACTION: When you are well grounded in your life purpose, have clarity for what you desire most, and are focused on your specific needs, the Universe (God/Life Force/Infinite Spirit) will come to your aid. People who spend time each day getting clear on what it is that they want, always will be able to get what they want.
2. The second principle is the Law of CONNECTION:
I believe every ‘body’ on this planet is connected in the spiritual realm. We are all spiritual beings on an earthly existence. Because we humans have the power of intellectualisation , rationality and especially in the immense power of choices - to act, to elevate our thinking and so choose our level of consciousness, which will determine our ultimate destinies. And we activate our spiritual connection through service to others, a sense of gratitude (or an attitude of abundance and especially grace), and a shared humanity.
3. The third principle is based on the Law of SOWING AND REAPING: In more modern everyday language, this may also be known as the LAW OF CAUSE AND EFFECT (as postulated by the Greek philosopher, Socrates). First you must give, and then you will receive. The farmer plants the seed and then reaps the rich harvest.
The Law of Attraction is also closely related to the LAW OF GRATITUDE: Have an ‘attitude of gratitude’ and you’ll be richly blessed.
4 The Law of DUALITY (or CONTRASTS):
There is a flip side or opposite of everything. Every negative has a positive (and is accentuatated - big word - by the contrast). For instance, you can only know good, if there is evil. Light can only exist with the darkness. Good luck can only exist, if there is such a thing as having experienced bad luck. And to experience success you must know failure. Even severe adversity can have some benefit, if we adopt a positive attitude and grow from the experience. We can perhaps use our bitter experiences of the deepest hurts to help others.
Perhaps our dark times (the “dark night of the soul”) are there so that we can really find joy in the bright days.
5 The Law of CYCLES:
All events occur in cycles. Professional athletes and cricketers (or baseballers for you Americans) might refer to the law of cycles as streaks (”hot”).
In accepting the law of cycles, we must know how to make the most of the good streaks. And when times are bad, keep your head up and look ahead expectantly to the upcoming reversal of fortune.
6 The Law of EVOLUTION and CHANGE:
Everything evolves and changes (as pressures and the sands of life shift over time) - the ebbs and flows of life. So it is up to you to ensure you progress and move ahead; as what were once huge obstacles get, “seemingly miraculously” removed..
7 The Law of CHOICES:
The greatest aspect of the human condition, I believe is our freedom: a freedom to make choices in life: regarding where to live, occupation, how we spend our time, our leisure pursuits, who to marry, and so on. Each one of us has absolute control over the multitude of choices we make each day …and our possibilities are unlimitëd. Stop feeling trapped by your circumstances, as you are not a victim of life. If you are feeling “negatively stuck in the deep brown stuff”, make the decision to change your life and choose a brand new future. Consequently YOU have the power and freedom to control your destiny.
Linked to the above Law of Choices is:
8 The Law of RESPONSIBILITY:
You must accept the full outcomes for the various decisions (choices) you make daily.
9 The Law of INERTIA:
In physics the law of inertia states that: “An object at rest tends to stay at rest.” This law is true of life as well. Action gets momentum going! The longer you procrastinate on completing that project, the longer you go without acting, the harder it will be to get started.
10 The Law of MOMENTUM:
“An object in motion tends to stay in motion.” This second law of physics is again a reality of life. Once you get started, it is easier to keep going and make progress. After the decision has been made, one tiny first step gets the momentum going. You probably notice the effect of this law in action every day. Once you get out of bed (for me the hardest part) and into the showër (warm, I trust!), getting dressed, having “brekkie’ and even going out the door to work (’clean and shiny’) is ‘a breeze’.
Done often enough (usually 21X ‘they’ say), an action becomes an ingrained HABIT… and good habits lead to good results and good living.
“The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.”
- ancient Chinese saying
11 The Law of SYNCHRONICITY (otherwise known as “CO-INCIDENCES” *):
* I prefer to call it ‘divine order’.
This principle is closely aligned with no 1: The Law of Attraction.
You are part of the universe, not a separate entity.
We humans are all connected to a common humanity. Your actions affect those around you and determine how your life is shaped. It is important to recognize that you are inseparable from the events and situations in your life. When you see your connection to the world around you, you understand the control you have over your destiny.
N.B:
12 The Law of MANIFESTATION:
Life is like a mirror - what you put out, you’ll get back even more. Put out positive energy (vibrations) and you’ll attact positive results. (This too is closely aligned with Law One: the Law of Attraction).
You become what you think about the most (”then why aren’t I a woman!”). Our thoughts shape our reality; so we need to learn how to SHAPE our thoughts, as the potter moulds the clay. Consequently, as the old saying goes, “Be careful what you wish for - you’ll probably get it!”
“We are what we think.
All that we are arises
With our thoughts.
With our thoughts,
We make our world.”
- the Buddha
“It’s not what you think you are,
but what you THINK, you ARE.”
- minister Norman Vincent Peale, the father of the concept ‘The Power of Positive Thinking’
“Man is mind
and evermore he takes the tool of thought
and, shaping what he wills,
brings forth a thousand joys,
a thousand ills.
He thinks in secret
and it comes to pass -
Environment is but his looking glass.”
- anon
Thanks so much for sharing, dad
13 (”Lucky”) The Law of EXPECTATION (POSITIVE):
Always expect a favourable outcome - the best from your actions in whatever you undertake. Be an optomist seeing the glass as “half full” in all your endeavours!
14. The Law of INTENTION (good)
Do things in the right “heart and spirit” with a genuine desire (intent) of some action(s) to make some small difference in the world, otherwise sharing ideas to help others …and you can’t go wrong. (My reason for sharing this piece - “oh no, not another article from you, Craig!”)
N.B.
15 The Law of PROCESS AND ACTION:
Spend more time in planning and setting goals. Then spend quiet times in reflection and contemplation to review and monitor your progress. Are you moving ahead, or do you perhaps need to “change tack” (strategy).
Manifesting what we want out of life still requires action and planning. Ask, trust, and allow the Universe’s Infinite
Wisdom to send you the answers on what to do to attain our deepest desires.
BALANCE thought with decision, which leads to ACTION. Because, if you are going to move ahead in life and make the most of your potential, rather than just ponder possibilities, you will need to take some practical steps, ie. actually DO something, “Mr/Mrs/Ms Dreamer”. You have to undergo the process of taking your desired goals and breaking them down into manageable parts. Plan appropriately and follow through - then through taking action on each step, it IS definitely possible to attain even your “wildest” dreams or destination.
16 The Law of HABIT:
Good habits maketh man and woman.
“Try not to become a person of success but rather try to become a person of value.
- Einstein
17. The Laws of COMMITMENT and PERSISTENCE:
When one commits fully to an endeavour, “body, heart and soul”, nothing can stop you. The moment one commits fully to an enterprise, all the mysterious forces of the Universe, God, Providence, Life Force moves too - in bringing all the threads even the “tangled” ones) together, so that your most earnest desires WILL one day come to pass..
18. The Law of COMMAND:
“Thou shalt deem a thing and it shall be so.”
The words we use to ourselves are vital in shaping our attitudes (mindsets). So be careful what you say to yourself (especially negative self talk/chatter) ; as it might just happen - it usually does! “Speak” desired events, ocurrences and outcomes “into existence”.
and most importantly (saving the best for last)
19. The LAW (POWER) of BELIEF:
“All things are possible to him who believes.”
- Mark 9:23
Now for a few personal thoughts on “spiritual matters” (note this is NOT religion, as I sincerely believe dogmatic and fanatical religion divides humanity and is the cause of so much conflict).
Jesus Christ understood perfectly human nature (the human condition) and the above-mentioned principles of the mind - even 2000 years ago! The teachings of Christ were psychologically correct and violate no psychological laws, though original in concept and spirit. Jesus possessed a wealth of wisdom in dealing with people’s day-to-day, as well as their spiritual problems. He knew the deepest recesses of the human heart: “He knew what was in man.” The very best psychiatrist!
So
*
BELIEVE in the tremendous power of BELIEF (ie. certainty): in the form of your thoughts and imagination. Use these incredible mental tools to your advantage through your amazing human mind. Sow positive energy and you’ll reap positive results. If you think your life will be exciting and fulfilling, you WILL make it a reality.
“Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you HAVE received it and it will be yours.”
- Mark 11:24
I believe there is a spiritual solution to any problem on this planet. One just has to think “outside the square”, on another level, at/in a “higher dimension”.. . then one’s whole perspective changes.
When stuck on what particular action to take, ASK, TRUST, and allow the Universe’s Infinite Wisdom to send you the answers through the amazing power of your subconscious mind, our “doorway to God, the Ultimate Source”.
and finally, the two most powerful forces in the world…
20. THE LAW OF CREATION: God is a God of Creation, which is why we’ve all been blessed with the amazing power of the human imagination (the way, I believe we “get divine answers from “another realm”, a Higher Power. We ALL have FREE WILL: the choice to BELIEVE, or not: the FAITH to believe that your deepest desires and even wildest dreams can and WILL happen if you can just have enough FAITH.
Lastly,
N.B: THE LAW OF LOVE: It really works! Give love and you receive back far more..
The above principles, I believe, are in perfect alignment with the laws of physics and human psychology (the spiritual is just another (and ‘higher’) realm or dimension in which they operate). I sincerely hope these Truths (eternal) motivate, uplift and perhaps even inspire you to move ahead and achieve great success: To be all you can be and become… in your business, or whatever endeavours you may choose to embark on in your life.
Have FUN and BE happy as you “ride down the rapids of life”
