The Silver Lining of Life

January 28th, 2008 by aaks

Have you ever had one of those days? You know, the kind of day where nothing seems to be going your way? You find yourself being a little bit negative about everything? (Okay, more than a little bit.) Everyone’s out to get you.

I′m sure we all feel like this some days. It’s human nature. A domino effect if you will. One person cuts you off on the way to work so you get angry and cut someone else off. Someone cuts you in the lunch line; you give some attitude to the cashier. This, however, has to stop. Put an end to unnecessary rudeness. Frankly, I′m a little upset that this type of behavior is expected of people.

My dad always told me “Kill them with kindness.” I like to think I follow this rule in my life. That being said I am a firm believer in the Golden Rule. This is because when you are nice to someone, they will be nice to you (the majority of the time). It is cause and effect. You don′t have to take Algebra to figure that one out.

We have the power to make everyone a little kinder, a little more thoughtful, a little more gracious and a little less rude. Here a
re a few ways to start off your new life as a world changing citizen:

1. Always tip. I don′t mean give away your money, but put yourself in the shoes of a server. Difficult customers who come in with their own attitudes, cooks who can only cook as fast as they can, a host who keeps seating people in your section… I mean really, you’re only one person. Just think about that.

2. When in doubt, hope for the best. It’s easy to be negative; it’s hard to be optimistic. Here is an easy solution: Put on a smile and hope for the best. Positive thinking can make a world of a difference in your own and others lives.

3. Be gracious whenever possible. This can be in the grocery store, on the highway, at work-wherever this happens to be, you will feel better wherever you are.

4. Be kind to yourself! Have genuine positive feelings about yourself and you will see the world around you lighten up. First, start by eating vegetables and fresh fruit every day. Secondly, institute a Wellness Program into your life that caters to a healthy lifestyle.

Follow this advice and you might begin to see the silver lining of the world… (and the rest of the world might too!)
